This enchanting castle, owned by a noble count Conti Guidi of Modigliana, trace the origin of its early construction near ninth century.
We find him mentioned for first time, quoted in 1191, in a document where the emperor Henry VI confirms the ownership of the mountain where the property rises.
One document of the emperor Frederic II from the 1220 confirms to the Guidi family theirs feudal rights, quotes among this possessions also the fourth part of the castle.
From the thirteen century looses a lot of strategic importance, due to the natural history motion, and from then this place remained almost blocked in his development; remains vital the church of San Peter, and the few houses builded for the servants of the castle, inside and outside the walls.
Inside the castle you find the house of the Finigiovanni family, who lives in Florence near to Santa Maria Novella. On rocks and coal of the castle the Finigiovanni family planted some cypress which dominates the landscapes surrounding the castle.
During the fifteen century we find the Castle traced into the maps of the Capitani di Parte, designed in the centre of the people of S.Peter. Into the sketch you’ll see the round fence of the walls, while is better designed the main entrance looking at the valley.
The main street doesn’t cross the castle but touches lightly the walls. Inside you can see the church, overtopped by the tower which is main symbol of the castle. The family of Fingiovanni and after the family of Cattani, had in their possession the concentration of the waste lands surrounding the castle, embracing the group of medieval houses above the castle.

This castle was also villa-factory but without loosing his main characteristics of castle. As a castle it was indicated by Lami in 1758, also in the land register of Leopold in the beginning of the XIX century were still indicated as a castle, and above all in our century, when the properties of all passes into the hands of knight Leopoldo Catani Cavalcanti, the castle preserves his roll as the principal factory.
One splendid photography from the early ’30 shows the tower made in beautiful white stone alberese covered all, and the rest of the lower buildings around without the usual decoration which usually you can see.
Another restoration made in romantic style, has widen the exterior walls, so this way the antique entrance of the castle entered inside the walls; into the northern part was made a park which is two hectares long, rich with statues, flowers and fountains.
The property has a central body in perfect shape, which is made by splendid zone full with halls, billiard room, and also another twenty-five room.
You will find also another dependence with two apartments which are under restoration; the castle has also fire place, oil mill.
One olive camp has a production of 7 ha, and 4 ha of woods.
